What
Coffee Talk began in Coppell in 2006 by Sharon Mankin and Amy Weber. At the time, Sharon was treading new waters of parenting and shepherding her teen daughter, and saw the need for high school girls to be discipled by older, wiser women other than their moms. The Lord placed the need, desire and vision of Coffee Talk on Sharon’s heart, and Amy Weber (Young Life leader at the time) obediently carried out the vision.
Amy continues to serve as the director of Coffee Talk, and Sharon still plays an active role in the ministry.
The Mission
Coffee Talk exists for high school girls to know God and pursue Biblical truth through Gospel-centered teaching and one-on-one mentor relationships.
Mentorship
We accomplish our mission by having monthly Coffee Talk meetings during the school year. At these meetings, a speaker will give a biblical, Gospel-centered message on a relevant topic and/or passage of scripture. We want the girls to leave feeling challenged, yet encouraged to know God more, and equip them to filter their thoughts, feelings, actions, words and motives through the lens of what the Bible says, not the world.
One-on-one mentoring is offered to all girls who desire to grow in their faith through an intentional and authentic relationship with a Christian, female mentor. Our goal as mentors is to build trust, practice vulnerability and boldness as we seek to know their hearts and struggles, encourage them to consistently be in God’s word, and be a Biblical sounding board for them as they make life decisions and maneuver through the highs and lows of high school.
When
Coffee Talk meets once a month (August – May) on Sunday evenings from 7-8:30pm. All Freshmen – Senior girls are welcome! Mentors and mentees set their own one-on-one schedules, with the goal of meeting every-other week if possible.
Monthly Coffee Talk meetings are held at GEORGE Coffee + Provisions in Coppell.
Who
Coffee Talk is for high school girls. Freshman through seniors have the opportunity to be paired with a Christian mentor.
